iPhone and iPad users can now enjoy the arrival of Skype for Business on iOS. Now you can be connected no matter where you are: on your mobile phone or tablet. The app allows you to instant message, voice-call, video-call, or conference-call your contacts, and updates Lync 2013.
Skype for Business features a fresh look and simplified controls, and allows you to view upcoming meetings and conversation history at a glance. You can join upcoming appointments remotely via the ‘quick join’ icon within a click of a button.
The new dashboard shows upcoming meetings, recent calls made, and a search bar to find contacts. The search bar lets you find anyone from a company’s global address list by first and will also allow you to chat with anyone who uses Skype, even if they’re not an employee. You can enter the first name, last name, email address, or phone number in the search bar to find a contact.
Video calls now fill the screen, and you can also see shared content and the video screen at the same time (a future release will also allow users to view PowerPoint presentations within a meeting).
The new app mirrors the consumer Skype application, but adds additional security, compliance and IT admin control features. For example, companies using Office 365 can configure the Skype for Business iOS app via Active Directory Authentication Library for added protection. Users would be required to respond to a text, call, or notification after they have entered their username and password, adding an extra layer of security. The guide for IT admins is available here.
The app is available on devices running iOS 8.0 or later, and is available here. If you already have Lync 2013 on your iOS device it will receive an automatic update. The app is also available on Windows and is coming to Android soon.
